Comment:
I had hoped to make a sappy "I like you" mix of various artists, but the girl in question decided she wanted an all-Cheap Trick mix instead, as a sort of CT introduction. I've tried to make CT best-of's before, and it's incredibly difficult given the volume of their catalogue. I had to include the hits (I Want You to Want Me, Surrender, Dream Police, That 70's Song, etc.) but decided to leave off all material from 1981-1994 because, in my opinion, the only really good Cheap Trick songs come from 1977-1980 and 1997 onward. ("Reach Out" is an exception -- it's from the 1982 Heavy Metal Soundtrack -- because I recorded my own version a few years ago and thought I'd let her hear the original.) The songs are in chronological order according to the year the studio versions were released. Normally I'm leery of doing a mix like that, but the flow seems to work surprisingly well. All the live songs are from "Budokan."So what do you think? I haven't burned the CD yet -- any suggestions?
Feedback:
She wants all Cheap Trick, eh? sounds like a live one. Too bad there's no room for Taxman. I need some Cheap Trick - I'll trade ya for a copy after you burn it.
Super duper kick ass. Very underappreciated band. I think that Rick Nielson is the consummate rock guitarist - style, flash, goofiness, taste. I like this.
This is really cool! Cheap Trick was the ultimate original power pop kinda band. Good choices.
I just saw them live at Yogi Berra stadium (Montclair State, NJ) and they still ROCK. And this is a great collection, not too hit heavy. I like it. And Simpsons quotes are always good :)
Believe me, I wanted to throw on Taxman...and Oh, Candy, and Gonna Raise Hell, and Stiff Competition...but alas, I only had 80 minutes. Anyway Steve, send me an email re: trade & I'll burn you a copy.
