The Replacements
Comment:
If the Ramones were the poster boys of American punk in the '70s, and Nirvana led the charge in the '90s, the bleeding heart of rough-and-ready noisemaking rested with the Replacements in the decade in between. The Minneapolis wrecking crew roared out the block in the early '80s, young, loud, and snotty, while Paul Westerberg's sly, sharp songwriting gave cred to ripped-jeans upstarts everywhere. On salad-days banner-wavers like "Bastards of Young" and "I Will Dare" the Mats let it be known that there were few more glorious places to be than in your buddy's basement, whipping up one holy hell of a D.I.Y. racket.
