Somewhere the party never ends.
Comment:
80 minutes of a sadly underrated band (at least their first two full-lengths and their debut e.p. are massively underrated). I take the position that although their worst stuff is downright embarrassing (and there's quite a bit of that), their best stuff is absolutely phenomenal--i.e., on a par with some of the Jam's stuff and way far ahead of anything that Mr. Weller has released during his "Dadrock"-infected solo career. Last songs cut: "All Gone Away", "A Man of Great Promise", "How She Threw It All Away", "(When You) Call Me", "Francoise", "Walls Come Tumbling Down", "Why I Went Missing", "Le Depart", "Confessions 1, 2 & 3" and "A Solid Bond in Your Heart."Feedback:
All of these are great songs, from a much under-appreciated band (except I would have included 'call me')...
Been meaning to revisit these sides since reading MOJO's raves for the reissues. Dig the "Dadrock" knock.
nice. I prefer his solo stuff (early days) myself, but the Council hit the right notes more often than not, in my humble opinion.
Nice mix. Always loved the early SC stuff. Not familiar with the dadrock era.
Lovely mix Rob. The SC are always nice to listen to, and I'm looking forward to the new PW collection.
I agree with the evaluation. Worst stuff is truly an embarassment and the best stuff is amazing. I'll be honest, I hated Style Council at the time but did a little revisit and glad I did.
I'm a big Weller fan, esp his solo-things and the Jam-things, esp thanks to you Rob with your amazing Jam-mix & to P the swede for making also amazing vol.2 to me......This mix is a-must-have-for-me-in-our-World-Championship-2007-biggest thing since....-trade;)
Have a nice weekend!
