Comment:

I'm an atheist who nonetheless likes a number of religious-themed songs. I wanted to make myself a mix of such songs (without including any that are anti-religion, for instance, "If you're feeling sinister" by Belle & Sebastian) Now, 1 and 2 (especially 2) don't necessarily belong here becayse they are not actually religious, they only mention one religious word each. 2-4 I put in that order because of a certain lyrical flow. (3 includes the lyrics "I believe it in the morning" and "Lord look at the state I'm in"). The mix only really hits its stride at 4. I know people will probably dislike this due to 5 but in my opinion the Beach Boys blend in quite nicely with B&S. Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

You're right; the Beach Boys really do fit. I'd suggest "Jesus Christ" by Big Star, "Jesus on the Mainline" by Ry Cooder, and "Run On For a Long Time" by the Blind Boys of Alabama. Way to go, showing that I can like "Hallelujah" without losing my "Godless Pagan cred"! (-:

really good stuff. i'd add on some stuff by bonni billy/will oldham, smog, modest mouse, and neutral milk hotel, all of whom frequent the subject of religion/jesus/[a] god.

There is an amazing amazing song by a Minneapolis band called Sue Generis called "All I need is your Love". You wouldnt be able to find it anywhere, but if you contact me I could try to send it to you somehow.

any great atheist or agnostic mix needs either xtc's "dear god" and/or the the's "armageddon days are here (again)," but i like what you got going on so far. keep it up!

Nice. The Beach Boys have a few God-themed songs on other LPs. Especially on "Sunflower". Good picks.
