Comment:
This mix is a request from "mike the pike", and it includes no tracks from the Rhino collection "The Beserkley years" , but actually I was in no mood to do a mix yesterday, maybe a sad one 'cos the swedish foreign minister got stabbed to death at a supermarket yesterday and she was one of the brightest politicians we got and she was also young and mother to 2 kids and now it's hard to belive in less than 15 years we lost a prime minister and now this to maniacs with weapons out there, last track of the killer said he was a 32 year old nazi if it was so I was thinking if he instead had listen Jonathan Richamn every morning maybe the world would be a better place, everybody should listen to him and smile more often. Don't look back in angerFeedback:
I sympathise with you, P. How come the nutcases always pick the wrong guys to kill? Martin Luther King, John Lennon etc etc, and Bush and Blair are still breathing. A great mix, and hope you're smiling soon when Sweden win the Euro 2004! (even without Henrik, you are a good side)
I think anyone who listened to Jonathan Richman every morning would have to wind up being a good person. I absolutely love "That Summer Feeling", and all of this is very nice.
I can't wait to hear this mix=) It's extremely sad that Anna Lindh was murdred at NK in Stockholm, one of the greatest swedish politicians since Palme...I think I'm gonna wote for Jonathan Richman on Sunday=)
Great mix; you hit most of my (post-Modern Lovers) favorites. I tried making a mix that covered his entire career, and it's hard to get past the huge disconnect between his unbelievably perfect first album and everything he's done since. "My Jeans" is one of the greatest songs ever as, like Jonathan, I was a skinny kid and Levi's wouldn't fit, so I was stuck with Wranglers (until I put on the usual weight at college). And I, too, really do think that mandating that everyone begin their day with 15 minutes of JoJo would make for a far happier, less violent world.
well...I wouldn't advocate a killing or wish anyone a bullet (wow Gerry-do you really want them dead--or just out of office ??), much as I might hate their politics... but the mix looks great; though I'm sorry about
Anna Lindh; I'm just a few years younger than she...I hope they catch the bastard.

I'm saddened to hear about the loss of your foreign minister - clear-headed politicians are in short supply these days. I do like this mix. One thing always struck me as peculiar about Jonathan. I had a band who opened for him once, and I met him on a couple of other occasions (once , I had to loan him an amp for a show). He actually didn't *seem* like an especially happy person - almost as though the persona in his songs is different from that in his life. Other people have told me that he was sweet to them, so it may just be me. NOt that it matters, of course. 3 and 20 are all-time favorites.
First of all. This is a great mix. I love JR. second of all, Gerry, the nutcases always kill the wrong people because the nutcases are allways right wing nutcases. Third, Yeah, go ahead and off Bush, he's certainly caused the deaths of enough innocent people to warrant the Death Penalty that he so vehemently stands for, so he should practice what he preaches. My apologies for the political rant.
i really regret that last comment, it was written out of anger , there has just been too much bad news today. I agree with you P, don't look back in anger. I certainly don't wish the death of anyone, that doesn't resolve anything, and I don't like to be that petty. In the words of the English Beat...two swords slashing at each other only sharpen one another.
awwright...the mix must be workin' already, p
...let's all hoist a frosty beer ( mine's a Corona - 27.3" in the freezer--ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh )

You're right, Gary. I am a pacifist and don't wish anyone dead, but I have no time for the neo-con military industrial complex who rule our world. If they spent a fraction of what they spend on weapons they could feed and cloth and shelter the whole world. This goal is attainable, it's the will that's missing. But all shades of opinion are welcome in a free and democratic world.
The death of Anna Lindh was truly a shocking news and my sympathy is aimed to all the swedish people who care.
Actually P I didn't - but I meant to say that my mix was in response to the senseless death of your foreign minister...sorry for your loss and I'm gonna add this fact to my comments..
