Comment:

First of all, let's get one thing straight: lists are stupid. Can I honestly say that I enjoy song #56 more than #58 but slightly less than #55? Of course not. However, we all seem to love them! So these are my personal favourite pop songs of the last 40 years.___________________Now, what is considered a "pop" song? Well, literally, it's something popular. However, not all these songs were popular. Some were #1 on the Billboard chart and others wouldn't know a Billboard chart if it hit them in the head (huh?!?) Anyways, to me a pop song is generally between 2-5 minutes long, it's immediately enjoyable and usually the first time you hear it, you've got the lyrics to the chorus memorized! All of these rules are broken at least once throughout the course of this list. One thing they do all have in common is that they are all super catchy (in my opinion!) Some are old, some are new, some are chart faves, some are AOTM faves, and there are a few guilty pleasures as well (yes, Rick Springfield made the cut.) I'd love yer feedback (what you like, hate, and what I've left out.)_____________________One more thing, I've limited the list to one song per artist just for the sake of variety. Otherwise, The Beatles and Big Star would completely take over. And I'd have to include the entire Fountains of Wayne debut which wouldn't make this much of a mix. So,____________________ #100. Ok The Wonders are not a real band, but it was played in the movie about 50 billion times and I was still humming it when I left.___________________#99. As a rule, I HATE Collins-era Genesis but I love this song. Why? Don't know.___________________#98. The Weekend are a local band but I listened to this song over and over again when i picked up their CD. And it's called "The Single" fer cryin' out loud.______________97. Sparky's Dream should probably be higher but this is still a fairly new song for me. Up till recently, I only owned Bandwagonesque and at that time "What You Do To Me" was a shoe-in for this list. But i think this song's better.____________________#93. Boston. Guilty pleasure (although I think most people secretly like it.) And besides, the riff is really quite similar to one of the greatest pop hits of the 90's. (you know the one)___________________________#80. I know, I know, Exile In Guyville's better. But not catchier.

Love that Oasis track. Whenever I need a shot of confidence I always play Definitely Maybe.

you want loves and hates: well, first off I love lists! Faves here have got to be #100, 93, 88, 87, and 86. don't really dislike anything here ( don't really know 1/4 of it ). although dissappointed that you didn't choose "walk like an Egyptian " for the bangles

I don't laugh at you, not at all...I once contemplated a top 500 CD set...luckily sanity or a lack of time reigned me in. Great concept and some choice songs...maybe if I made my own top 100 we could trade sometime?
