Comment:

I grew up reading Rolling Stone. Through high school it was like my bible, something I read cover to cover and often had nearby at the ready. They used to turn me on to so many new acts and write long, interesting articles about my favorites. Then a few years ago, something went wrong. If you haven't been reading it lately, here's a rundown of RS's covers for this year: Lisa Marie Presley, The Olsen Twins, Ashton Kutcher, 50 Cent, Justin & Christina, Ruben AND clay(on seperate covers) and what year would be complete without Britney? I've felt so ashamed reading it in public, folding the cover over like I'm reading a porno on the subway. That's why I'm happy as a clam that I've found BANG magazine. UK import, it talks far more about GOOD music, and once again introduces me to great talent I may not have heard of. They're also not afraid to call crappy music crappy, lest get scorned by the artists publicists. If you have a chance, give it a look. All of the artists on this mix are ones I heard about in recent issues, and most of them were ones I'd never heard of. Cheers, thanks for listening. -AF.

Yeah, I have been noticing the lack of any serious music news and or taste lately in RS. I consider it more of an entertainment/pop culture magazine than anything else these days. AND it is always great to read who has the new 4 star album (c'mon one every 2 weeks or so, give it a rest).

Rolling Stone has definitely become something of a disappointment in the past few years. I myself am a Spin kinda girl. Anyway, this mix is fantastic. Excellent. Take that, RS!

i've been loving blender. tons of reviews and very funny. and when the olsen twins make the cover of a mag that doesn't end in "teen"...well, it might be the second coming. nice mix too, I'm really getting into the thrills

Wow, glad to se I'm not the only one. I just let my subscription run out due to the afforementioned covers and one you forgot to add to the list: Good Charlotte. I was wondering if this was Teen Beat or RS...Used to read CMJ for good bands..and a cool disc every month but I can never find it anymore...Blender will have to do until I find a magazine that has good music but without the snobby attitude...Good mix!

RS has been nothing but a fashion bi-weekly since the dawn of the nineties. Before that, it was a sucky version of the music magazine it once was. If you're looking for new stuff try CMJ New Music Monthly or the UK imports Uncut and the previously mentioned Mojo. All three are vastly superior to that shitcan RS!

Although RS is way up the ass of the Flaming Lips and Yeah Yeah Yeahs who were one of the most disppointing bands I've ever seen play live...good sentiment. i too am old enough to remember when RS was a rock mag. Anyway, screw the YYYs but big ups to British Sea Power.

The bigger something is, the easier it is to piss on. + RS just got too damn big. I dig the concept, especially using (mostly) artists that you've only recently discovered. IT could drop like a lead balloon, but it seems that people dig it. I have no idea, 'cause short of Coldplay + Foo Fighters, I haven't heard of any of the other bands. Well... 'cept the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, but I think they suck. Out.
