Piano Jazz
Comment:
A piano is a melodious mirror of a jazz player's soul, and there are as many pianistic voices to be heard in the jazz universe as there are sets of fingers falling across the keys. Panamanian piano prince Danilo Perez mixes Monkish chord clusters with a little South American groove juice on "Bright Mississippi." Gershwin gets a new coat of paint when Brazil-born virtuoso Eliane Elias lends a bright, modern glint to the old standard "But Not for Me." And when Wynton Marsalis alumnus Eric Reed deconstructs a tune from 1971's Willie Wonka & the Chocolate Factory soundtrack (as famously sung by a regally clad Gene Wilder) into a piece of minimalist magic, you know you've witnessed a feat of "Pure Imagination."
