Comment:

Once, maybe twice a year I go through the stacks of discs I've bought in the past few months that are cluttering my house and throw together a quicky mix for the car (and shoot my brother in Chicago a courtesy copy). I haven't generally posted these on AOTM, as they tend to be a haphazard mix of new releases, reissues, and random odds & ends I've picked up, with little guiding theme (and, like some other frequent AOTM posters, I'm pretty obsessive about my mixes and hate doing anything half-assed). Besides, most of this will show up in a few months on my annual "Best of" mix. (Obvious contenders include the retro-catchy "Stacy's Mom," the wildly inventive "Stray Dog," the unbearably catchy "Laws Have Changed," and Neil Young's best song in years.) Still, thought I'd throw one up here for anyone who might be interested.

I'm definitely interested in seeing this type of mix. I occasionally post such mixes. They're good musical markers.

Wow! Someone actually spends money on music?! ;) Looks like some good stuff. I saw the video for "Stacy's Mom" last week, but I was so engaged by the images that I've forgotten what the song sounds like!

Haven't seen the Fountains of Wayne video. To tell the truth, I would have no clue where to go to see an actual video these days. There are rumors that MTV shows one or two at, like, 3 a.m., but I'm not usually up. Valis: The Oranger disc is pretty good; nice, Brian Wilson-influenced pop. But definitely worth it for the bonus disc of b-sides, which is (though erratic) pretty cool. I'll be posting an Oranger mix here soon (they're next on the list).

Ok, at Ion's prompting, I have now gone to the VH1 website and watched the "Stacy's Mom" video. Now I think I'll go watch it again, but just, like, 3 or 4 more times. (Kudos to them on the nod to Fast Times!)

Good on the Fountains of Wayne. Def. a catchy choice by New Pornographers too.

Looks fantastic. Also looks like some of the same stuff I've bought recently - yup, I'm one of the few who still actually *buy* music too! (and spends way too much money on it!)
