Comment:

Not much of a mix, as they only have 3 albums (plus a disc of b-sides & ep tracks, courteously included along with their most recent album). Still, they're a pretty decent indie pop band, doing a nice job channeling Quick One-era Who and Smiley Smile-era Beach Boys, filtered through a record collection presumably stocked with XTC and Teenage Fanclub. And they do have a few songs I'd call truly great (i.e. "Eggtooth," "Texas Snow," "Mike Love, Not War"). What more could you need?

Oranger! Well, you know I love them... I've been listening to the new album pletny, though I haven't popped in the bonus CD yet. A lot of the stuff was on my Oranger Rarities CD (truth be told, I like the older version of "The Writer" better), but I'm excited to see how they mixed it. Anyway, this looks great, I like how you put "Porpoise Song" in near the end there. Let's get everyone listening to Oranger!

And a belated thanks to you, Patrick, for shipping me your Oranger rarities disc way back when. The new, official rarities disc picks up pretty much all those tracks (though neither the Monkees cover "Porpoise Song" nor the Pavement cover that appears on the Pavement tribute album I haven't felt like coughing up the $$ for). I actually find the bonus rarities disc a much more enjoyable listen than the "real" new album.

I have that 2-CD Pavement tribute, it's great... if you want me to burn you a copy, let me know. Oranger's "Winner of the..." cover is a pretty faithful one (mkes sense since QVL was released on Spiral Stairs' label).

Good to see a tribute to these guys - good band, good comp.

Er, I have to admit to the shameful fact that I never heard about these guys in my life. Which makes this all the more interesting, of course.

Me too! I am curious Oranger. Do they still host a bunch of mp3s on their website? I know I've got a few that I downloaded somewhere.
