Comment:

1. A song from the last record you bought: ,David Holmes presents The Free Association" - if you see it, buy it; it's a killer, it's a thriller, it's the thing that you need.
2. A blues: not a necessarily a blues record but a song that is labelled (something) blues: I bought T. Rex's ,Tanx" when I was 8, and it hasn't lost a bit of its genius and/or charm.
3. A song that gets you going in the morning: Oooh, it's - well, what? 90s Northern soul or plain disco? No matter, it'll ruin my musical cred on this site anyway . . .
4. A song that you think is romantic: Well, if you think never finding the right guy/gal is romantic . . .
5. One of the earliest records that you can remember listening to: My aunt gave me the original single when I was, I dunno, five or sumpin', and I liked the sound of it, especially the funny voices Ray makes. Unfortunately, the record slipped behind a cupcoard and cracked, so my mum dumped it in the trash.
6. A song that you discovered from a film: It's from ,Velvet Goldmine" and the first of three songs from movies on this mix. Craig & the guys capture the Steve Harley-ish glam sound perfectly, and if it weren't a fake it woulda been a hymn at the time.
7. A song from your favourite band / artist: Well, yeah. Call it the start of the end of history.
8. A song from an artist band that you otherwise don't like, but like this one: Basically, each `n every Aimee Mann song sounds more or less the same to me; this one clearly got to me via P. T. Anderson's wonderful ,Magnolia" and has a nice Beatlesque feeling to it. The mellotron, the drumming, the guitar (is that XTC's Dave Gregory playing? I only have a burnt copy) are simply beautiful.
9. A Lullaby: Doo Wop was one the most wonderful things that ever happened to pop music, and this one's a classic.
10. A song that makes you laugh/you find funny: Hey, I'm German, so this kind of redneck humor makes me crack up. Can't help it.
11. A really good cover version: A killer reggae version of the Chaka Khan classic. Luv it.
12. A song that reminds you of school days: Well, it's a song I liked a lot when I was in 7th grade. Actually, what I remember from school parties is stuff like Deep Purple, Queen or Manfred Mann's Earth Band, but seriously, folks, who wants to listen to that kind of crap today?
13. A song from an artist that you are embarrassed to admit you like: Mmmm, actually I guess I'm past the age of being em-bare-assed about anything, so I love to love Tina. She's from the famous Biddu stable (the one where, among others, Carl ,Kung Fu Fighting" Douglas came from), and all of her singles are little trash disco masterpieces I hated at the time and learned to admire when I started buying old 70s 7"s in the late 80s. I guess my collection of her 45rpm efforts is rather complete.
14. Whatever it is, it's got to be funky: An' eet ees.
15. A song for those quiet rainy days: Omigod, if Whitney Houston could still sing like she could when she was 18 - and did on this brilliant Robert Wyatt cover - she'd be someone to revere. Unfortunately, she can't and thus isn't. The real star of this show, though, is the great Archie Shepp with a couple of sax solos which have to be heard to be believed.
16. A song that no matter when you hear it makes you `feel good': Whenever I hear it, ,a thousand Cheshire cats grin inside of me." And it's not even by Andy, but by Colin (no offence, mate).
17. A song with the word `Look' in the title: No, it's not a cover of Dusty's classic, it's a completely different song. Actually, I think Miss Gore was one of the great 60s singers, but who am I . . .?
18. From a member of the `Dead rockers society': Listen to the violins, the feedback guitar, the clanging drums. A timeless classic. Even though me luv' thought it sounded dated. But who is she . . .?
19. Your favourite Elvis song: Nuttin' beats the wild & untamed, pre-RCA Elvis. And I think this is one of his best effo

Thomas, I suspect my e-mail is still not getting through to you -- I sent a thank-you for Ngoma, etc, on 10/14 - if that didn't reach you would you please send me something from your alternate address so I can try replying to that? And, in case this is my only channel for send it, thanks for all those astonishing mixes!

Very fine! Also dig the extra comments, which require no translation. Love the Gore, Kinks & Colin/XTC, not too familiar with most of the rest.

Nice one, Thomas. And you survive credibility intact (although it is one of those mix ideas where you feel you need to explain yourself...). Your #19 was very nearly my #19.

Cool stuff! I don't think your cred has been negatively affected, in fact, it's an interesting look into the "real" Thomas Mohr!

I'm with the famous Madame d'Insect and Muzag here, after just giving this a spin whilst reading the overnight e-mails, etc. A glimpse of the "real Thomas Mohr", indeed! Damn skippy on the Chaka cover! Actually I'm surprised that the concept works as well as it does in real life when held to the format. This one's got a ton of new favorites! Ooh, that "Party Time" is the real funk! What a beautiful Gore tune.., Carol Jiani's track is sublime, and-just may end up on a (near) future "LOVE" volume. :) Lastly, HAIL the Dan!
