Comment:

For the first eight years or so of life, the only music you're aware of is whatever your parents put on. Since my parents were only 23 when I was born , they were still listening mainly to the stuff they listened to in high school and this obviously made the soundtrack to my childhood sound pretty different from most kids. For this particular volume I'm chronicling my dad's taste. When I was little, he always had the rock station on in the car when we went anywhere, so some of the songs are from that. Most of the songs are what my dad would play on the stereo in the living room. He had all his records from high school and then he also had a lot of records from the early 80's. A few of these have specific memories attached to them...when I was maybe 7 my dad took our family to a laser light show done to all pink floyd songs. I just remember it being the coolest thing I'd ever seen or heard. Queen's on here twice because they're one of the few artists I would ask for by name, bohemian rhapsody was my favorite growing up and bicycle race is my dad's favorite. Anyway, enjoy and look for volume 2 where I chronicle my mom's taste in music(featuring heart, carly simon, and zz top to name a few) :)

Damn...I WISH my parents raised me on what yours did. Instead I knew Kenny Rogers tunes by heart at the age of four. Cheers! -AF.

I gotta agree with AF: I had "The Gambler" memorized by kindergarten! If only I had a father who listened to Kiss. Thank the stars for cool, hip, older cousins. "Dream on" is the greatest rock ballad ever. Pink Floyd, Ozzy, AC/DC... I envy you your father. Solid tribute. Out.
