Comment:

I've been saying for the past two years that I was going to make a mix to go with the political season. This year I followed through and made this mix for our city's mayor, who is up for re-election. Oh yeah, I work on his campaign lest you think I'm some kind of stalker or something.

"Where The Streets.." - This is Sam's (the mayor) sort of theme song for the election since he's using it in one of his commercials.
"Under Pressure" - Self-explanatory. "And love dares you to care for the people on the (People on streets) edge of the night. And loves (People on streets) dares you to change our way of
Caring about ourselves"
"All About Soul" - "It's all about soul. It's all about faith and a deeper devotion"
"Green River" - A river runs through the middle of the city. Plus, it rocks it up a bit.
"Seven Nation Army" - "I'm gonna fight 'em off. A seven nation army couldn't hold me back."
"Life During Wartime" - "This ain't no party, this ain't no disco, This ain't no fooling around This ain't no mudd club, or CBGB, I ain't got time for that now" It's always interesting doing a local campaign when there's still a war going on
"Young Americans" - "All night You want the young American"
"I Should Be Allowed.." - "I should be allowed to shoot my mouth off I should have a call in show" This refers to Sam's opponent who does shoot his mouth off and one of our local radio talkshow hosts who shoots his mouth off all the time
"Fortunate Son" - "Some folks are born silver spoon in hand, Lord, don't they help themselves, oh. But when the taxman comes to the door, Lord, the house looks like a rummage sale, yes" Refers to some of the more well-to-do in the city that would like to take over and run government in a way that benefits their little group the most
"Electioneering" - This is Sam's opponent to a "T": "I will stop. I will stop at nothing when electioneering. I trust I can rely on your vote"
"Exhuming McCarthy" - "Enemy sighted, enemy met, I'm addressing the realpolitik Look who bought the myth, by jingo, buy America" We have a case of McCarthy-ism happening on the county scene. It's not pretty.
"Don't Worry About.." - "I see the states, across this big nation I see the laws made in Washington, D.C. I think of the ones I consider my favorites I think of the people that are working for me"
"Mayor of Simpleton" - I chose this for the title really but I do like this line: "If depth of feeling is a currency (please be upstanding for the
Mayor of Simpleton), then I'm the man who grew the money tree (no chain of office and no hope of getting one)"
"Little Bit O'Soul" - For those times when the campaign sucks... which it has often this year. "Now when you're feelin' low and the fish won't bite You need a little bit o' soul to put you right You gotta make like you wanna kneel and pray
And then a little bit of soul will come your way"
"Southern California Wants.." - WNY is not such a bad place. And I'm sure "Sometimes Southern California wants to be Western New York"
"Mighty Wind" - This is the tongue in cheek song to finish it off. It's to make you laugh and maybe feel a little moved since it is that kind of rousing patriotic, folk songs. We jokingly refer to this song as the true campaign song for Sam
