Comment:
80 minutes from New Jersey's finest female vocal trio produced by Robert Fripp. It was tough to cut anything from their pretty much perfect first album, but I managed to cut "Damned Old Dog". It's a real shame that only "Losing True" measures up to the first album in terms of quality and that the rest of their stuff got so nondescript so quickly.Feedback:
I love the damn variety of mixes people do on this list. Gased on your other mixes I would not have pegged you as a Roches man. A band that I've tried several times to get into, but there's just something about them that doesn't sit right with me.
I would comment, Rob, but I've never even heard of this band! One for the future perhaps
ditto Gerard
I've seen the clip of them doing The Hallelujah Chorus on Saturday Night Live back in the day. Very strange.
good candidate for a single artist mix. i *like* them, but don't love them. maybe they're a bit precious & peculiar for my liking.
I had a roommate years ago who loved the Roches, especially their first album (which I ended up hearing A LOT). I have to second Sean, I like them okay, but I don't know if I could get into 80 minutes of them. Perhaps you can change my mind. =)
I liked their first album, saw them put on a good show at a folk festival and then lost track of them except on an occasional folk program. I used lots of their first album on assorted mixes in the 80s. Small doses but they always stood out.
How I confounded family & friends with my love of that first LP. Probably never would've checked it out if not for the Fripp connection. Seems like the reviews I'd read for every subsequent release would try to convince me (& maybe the reviewer) that this one was every bit nearly as good as that debut. They did put out a decent kids album. Pretty sure a cassette copy still resides under one of the seats in the family car if you're interested.
I completely forgot about this band. I used to own one of their albums... i don't even remember which one. I just remember thinking that they were a tad bit BIZARRO :)
but i LOVE Damned Old Dog! Bow-wowwwwww. Seriously.
