Comment:
80 minutes from a slightly overrated but seminal band in power-pop history. I actually had to stretch the quality to fill out the entire CD (see "Play On" and "Cry"), but their best stuff is really great. I actually think that listening to this mix (and thus skipping some of their more terrible album tracks) will increase my estimation of them.Feedback:
When they were good, they were very good. And this is very good. Nice stuff.
Yep - agreed. Overrated, but sometimes great. But they ain't no Big Star or Cheap Trick.
I've got one of their greatest hits compilations, and that's always been more than enough for me. Still, their very best songs, played alongside, say, Big Star, Badfinger, Rundgren, and McCartney, make for the ideal early 70's pop listening experience.
Yep - love their best stuff. Why no Crusin' Music. That was a great lesson from the Beach Boys, one of my favorites of theirs.
They're not even in the same city as Big Star or Cheap Trick. And Steve, "Cruisin' Music" was one of the last couple of songs cut.
Good band.., seemed to be lost somewhere between the analogy of a Triple A team at their best and a Double A team at their usual....but Popkulcher is right......(and you)..they did create some magic and-to listen to them alongside some of their contemporaries, they shine.
That opener is AM radio pop gold, but I'd be hard pressed to come up with another 77 minutes. Would love to check this out in the future.
Shit - how did I miss this?!? I agree that they're overrated (but historically significant to us pop nerds) and I too would have to stretch to fill a disc, but they do have some fucking great songs. And this is one of those bands that may sound nice on disc, but they sound perfect coming through a transistor radio or stock car speaker. Um, not a speaker in a stock car, but a standard no frills speaker made for cars.
