this is for local columnist garret mathews. a few weeks back, he wrote about how when he was growing up, songwriters had a story to tell, their songs meant something, and they didn't have to rely on kissing a member of the same sex (more specifically "the kiss" between britney spears and madonna). i was compelled to write him, but instead opted to make him a tape. he is coming into my journalism class soon and i will give him this. these songs mean something. you can read his column here.

have you ever listened to okkervil river? i think their lyrics are some of the best stories i've ever read.

heather, i really like the okkervil river. i've used some of their songs on a few mix cds, but i didn't have any with me when i made this. otherwise, i probably would have used one.
