Comment:

I decided to revise this mix after dubbing it and its companion Grant Hart mix ["Bluer than the bluest heaven (revisited)"] for Jana and popkulcher. (FYI: The original "Bluer than..." is still available and is set up to be a Grant-only primer. However, due to the duplicate nature of some of the tracks and the fact that a lot of folks ask for both the Huskers and Grant mixes simultaneously, I came up with an alternate version.) This is now what I consider to be the definitive 80 minutes by one of my eight or so favorite bands. Grant Hart is a god. May some supreme being grant him a record deal soon. [Note: This was revised on 11/4/03 to include "Eight Miles High", which I had forgotten about. "Diane", which is mentioned by Dale in his comments, was dropped in order to include it but has been inserted into the revised Grant mix.] Other tracks that were hard to cut: "Don't Want to Know If You Are Lonely", "Whatever", "Hate Paper Doll", "Masochism World" and "If I Told You."

Fuck this one hell of a killer chunk of songs. "It's Not Funny Anymore" is one of the strongest songs of that decade and a great way to start a disc. And when you follow it up with "Dianne" that's about as powerful of a one-two whollup that you're gonna see. I did a phone interview with grant shortly after the Husker break up and he was very laid back and incredibly easy to talk to. I was nervous as all shit prior to the interview but he was so damn calming it helped me relax.

Brilliantly powerful band, and this is a great tribute to them.

Very, very cool. I'll always prefer the 'Mats, but Husker Du are one of my favorites. "Chartered Trips", "Divide and Conquer" and "The Girl Who Lives on Heaven Hill" are songs I can listen to for hours on end.

Pretty great (and thanks for the dupe, Rob). My own take would include their two incredible covers, "Eight Miles High" and "Love Is All Around" (the Mary Tyler Moore theme), but that aside this lines up pretty closely with my own faves. I've said it before, but damn if this isn't one band in desperate need of a reissue series -- a nice remastering with a little more bass would do wonders to their back catalog.

Great mix. Great band. If it were my mix, I might have squeezed in "Everything Falls Apart," but it's your mix so I should just shut my damn mouth.

Yes, "Eight Miles High" is quit a good cover. The best version is from their video of a 1985 London concert, entitled "Makes No Sense." The British fans really liked that performance.
