Comment:

Ah, what can I say about the mighty Goffin/King Brill Building years? For all the disposable hits they generated, there were scores of really amazing pop rock standards. I've gathered a few of my fave singles, mostly big hits, and some of the tunes covered by some mid-late 60s acts. A few (perhaps obvious) tunes are missing - no Herman's Hermits ("Something good") or James Taylor - since I don't need to hear those songs or versions again soon. A period CK song and the obligatory "Tapestry" moment, for good measure.

I had an idea to do this a wee while ago, but I don't think it would be half as good as this. Really great stuff.

Terrific stuff. I've been listening to the Monkees the last few days which reminded me how great some of those Goffin/King songs were.

Yeah, and I've been wanting to hear Tapestry for some strange reason. King must be in the air. Put this one on my wish list!

Just like Gerry, I had something quite similar in mind a while ago but, most unfortunately, I had to admit to myself that a lot of these songs were stored inside my head instead of on my CD shelves (that English? Well,I guess y'all know what I mean). Great, great stuff (genuflect, genuflect, genuflect). Will defkinitely need to have this sooner or later . . .

Beautiful! I really had no idea just how prolific Carole King was until recently, she has written so many masterpieces it's astounding. Love those Dimension Dolls

Excellent. Carole King lives up to her last name. Recently heard Might As Well Rain.. for the first time and thought it was fantastic.

I often cite the talents of Goffen/King when debating the merits of popular music then vs. now. Status Quo do a bitchin' version of You're Just What I Was Looking For.
