Where do you dig this stuff up, Curtis? I've never heard of any of this, apart from Pablo Casals. My cd player is trembling with anticipation! Yet another brilliantly intriguing and interesting mix, Mr Burns.

At least I know Tim Berne and Lee Ranaldo (and Casals, of course), but the rest . . .

I can quite safely say I have heard of no one on this mix. Must be the first time ever!

Is that the same Roger Miller that sang "Dang me?" I really prefer Rostoprovich on Cello, not that casals isn't great ...

Google would ask: Did you mean Rostropovich?

...evidence for
Casals as a tad greater in stature:

'The greatest musician ever to draw a bow' - the cellist Pablo Casals had a huge life, in all senses. He lived for ninety-seven years, performing both for Queen Victoria and for John F. Kennedy. His cello, however, was not merely a musical instrument, it was his political weapon too. As Rob Stradling describes in Song of The Birds on Radio 4 this week, his performances were his way of fighting against European fascism and for independence for his Catalan homeland.'

...there's Feuermann too...and Bolognini (of whom Casals remarked "Bolognini!
The greatest cello talent I ever hear in my life!" and of whom Feuermann spoke:
"For my money, the world's greatest cellist is not Casals, Piatigorsky or myself, but Bolognini!"

However, he
[Rostropovich] quickly earned a reputation as the greatest cellist since Casals.

Well, so I can't spell Russian names quickly ... I can tell you his birthday! Anyway, maybe it is the difference in recording quality ... ROSTROPROVICH is a little more sensual to my ears, but i do own the Casals and listen to it, too ... Curtis, is it time for us to shut up?
