Comment:

This is the first mix I've submitted having been brought to the attention of the site by my mate Gobi. We've been doing mixes for each other for years now and thought this theme was a great idea for our annual Xmas Mix to each other. For those of you not familiar with the theme (can't be too many of you by now)it goes;
1) A song from the last record you bought.- I'm living en France now and this guy is the only decent French artist I've discovered so far.
2) A blues: not necessarily a blues record but a song that is labelled (something) blue.6 From the all time Classic Exile on Main Street.
3) A song that gets you going in the morning.- No explanation required.
4) A song that you think is romantic. Most Waterboys fans hate the album Room to Roam but I disagree, this track is a little gem.
5)One of the earliest records that you can remember.- Vivid memories of dancing around the living room floor to this song.
6)A song that you discovered from a film.- Cracking track from the film Jacki Brown.
7) A song from your favourite band.- Christ, where do you start? This section presented me with a real headache but I'm on a real Neil Young trip this year since seeing him in Paris this May and having just read Shakey (his autobiography)This track represents The Horse at their crappiest best if you know what I mean?
8) A song from an artist that you otherwise don't like but like this one.- Just simply like it.
9) A lullaby.- Don't like this section of the theme but it's a good song to choose anyway!
10)A song that makes you laugh.-Resisted the urge to include a Mr.Zappa track (too obvious) I'm not a sexist but I do like this song.
11)A really good cover version. For me one of the best covers oaf all time.
12)A song that reminds you of school days.-Punk halcyon days, it fucked my education up cos I grasped the Punk mantle totally but hey, I wouldn't change a thing. The Clash are still one of my favourite bands and at 14 this was my favourite Clash track.
13)A song from an artist that you are embarassed to admit you like.- Played this song at my wedding,my mates still take the piss out of me for it! But what the hell, one of the better things about being older is that you don't give a fuck about following trends and can just listen to whatever you want to.
14)Whatever it is, it's got to be funky.- My wife brought me an Al Green compilation back from a recent trip to England(suspect that it was really for her)this is one of the better tracks on the album.
15)A song for those quiet rainy days. What can you say about this track? Even the fact that Simon Mayo voted it the track he could listen to every day for the rest of his life, doesn't put me off,I agree with the sentiment.
16)A song that no matter when you hear it it makes you feel good.- Cracking track, really uplifting considering that the lyrics are about seeing your ex with someone else.
17)A song with the word 'Look' in the title.- Struggled a bit with this section cos I didn'twant to be too obvious.
18)From a member of the 'Dead Rockers Society.'I've only just bought a deck, so am rediscovering my old Hendrix albums, this is one of my all time fav. Hendrix tracks.
19)Your Favourite Elvis song.Don't have a large Elvis collection, so I chose this T.J.W. track cos Elvis did a great cover of it, in fact I think it might have been written for Elvis in the first place?
20)Wildcard Any song you like.- Just fancied listening to this an I like to include at least one instrumental on a mix.

love #2, 3, 5 (what household had kinks playing to create early memories? wow!), 6, 11, 12 (clash were my schooldays band too), 14, 16 and very imaginative 19. if nick drake (#15) knew how infallibly associated he'd become with rainy days, he'd kill himself all over again. bon chance, welcome to the site.
