Excellent !!
A truly great mix, Curtis. This one is filled with too many great tunes to name 'em all, but moves effortlessly from country/bluegrass into jazz. One of your very best, my friend, and that's saying something.
Phenomenal.
Wonderful.
Nice.
Excellent stuff, as usual, Curtis.Great Mingus piece, thanks for the link. I read Brian Priestly's book recently...I never knew about Mingus stopping his band and giving out to the audience...I wish a few people would do that these days. The curse of Irish venues is that, nevermind how much people pay for a ticket, when they get to the gig the most important objective seems to be to get to the bar rather than listen to the music :)
incredible !
...so this Irish guy walks into a bar
after the concert &...(oops, sorry)
amazing stuff, [once again] Curtis.

Thanks Gary. Yeah, Mingus demanded fealty to his art, from his musicians and his audience. If he didn't get it, he didn't give it. There's the famous incident where he walked off the stage at the '65 Monterey Jazz festival because the audience wasn't paying attention followed by a gig, "Music Written For Monterey 1965, Not Heard", where he sent the band backstage 'cause they weren't paying attention.I went to the Village Vanguard, for the first time in years, a couple of months back to see Motian/Frisell/Lovano, and sat near two tourists who spent the set talking on, and taking pictures with, their f**king cellphones!
Bloody tourists!
this should be the mix of the month on AOTM, or whatever it is now.....great work!
This is truly great.
Yeah ... jazz and bluegrass, a great combination. I live around the corner from the Vanguard.
