Comment:
My husband asked me to whip up a Pernice Brothers comp for a coworker who has heard a few songs, but wants to hear more so he can decide whether to catch their show with us in a week or so. By no means a comprehensive collection of songs by this incredibly gifted songwriter (equally adept at sparse country-tinged beauty and popcraft), I decided to concentrate more on Pernice Brothers (particularly the new album), but threw in some Scuds, Skyline, and solo Joe for good measure.Feedback:
cool stuff, heather. how could the co-worker *not* get joe, though? let's hope he does!
I've been wanting to make a mix of Joe's stff for a while, but have been avoiding it because it looks so difficult. I hate having to leave stuff off. This is a nice representation though, especially for the purpose it serves: introducing a person to the songs you may be seeing live. What a great songwriter.
I've just gotten into the Pernice Brothers recently, purchasing their three discs within the last three months or so. I had heard a lot of good things about them, but was a little scared by the alt country tag. For the life of me, I can't hear any country influence in this band at all. I guess the country label is a carryover from Joe's previous bands ? May have to give them a try sometime.
Wow - killer mix from start to finish. I was a johnny-come-lately to the the Pernice Borthers since I wasn't a big fan of Scud Mountain Boys, but once i heard that first PB record I was hooked. The new one will most likely be a year end top 5 for me. And you did an amazing job with the cover - it fits the artist perfectly.
i've only heard a few songs by the pernice brothers, but i really liked what i heard and want to hear more. i think i'll have to download all of these sometime tonight.
The Pernice Bros. just do it! What a great intro' to them. May the seat/space be taken by someone who appreciates them, whether it is your husband's coworker or not! (He had his chance.)
this is terrific! nice and comprehensive.
Always a great choice. I did one of these a couple of years ago... ("I can't crush that water in my hand").
