Comment:
The main inspiration for this mix came from John Peel's "Peelennium", tapes of which I was listening to recently. The running order is a chronology of my favourite songs, one from every year from 1988 (Q. Lazzarus) through to 2003 (Colder). I wasn't born in 1988, btw, nor do I intend to die in 2003; but for a hypothetical "Sadly, This Was My Life Vol. 2" (preceding 1988) to be strictly accurate in its title I would be obliged to include on it four songs only, and I can't do a Vol. 2 covering the years *after* 2003 "for obvious reasons". I may also have been motivated by my current academic fixation - namely the Victorian fin-de-siecle - and I suppose I was looking for 20th Century fin-de-siecle subtexts to emerge in the selection of the songs I chose, though I selected every one of them on the sole criterion (?) of "best song of the year" and didn't pay any conscious heed to "cultural impact" and suchlike. Anyway, I think everyone should compile one of these.Feedback:
You continue to amaze, Mr Millar. I'd write something more original/insightful, but it's possible that I'm not 100% sober right now ...
