Comment:

9/25/05: My third revision of my four-year-old White Stripes mix. I don't care how many records they sell (in fact, I want them to sell millions more), they are easily one of my favorite bands in existence and are potentially vying for bands on the "all-time favorite" list. Last tracks cut: "Take, Take, Take," "The Union Forever", "Expecting," "Stop Breaking Down," "Girl, You Have No Faith in Medicine," "I Can't Wait", "One More Cup of Coffee", "Little People", "Little Bird" and "Red Bowling Ball Ruth."

This band is really phenomenal. They can write a kick-ass rocker, or go with a sweet song, like the one from which your title is taken. And, of course, their covers are amazing. What a great band, and a great mix.

I dig this, and if you ever do a B-sides collection I'm really interested in one

I agree with everything you say, Rob. A brilliant band, and a great mix to boot!

magnificent. i'm listening to elephant as i write this and i just have to say that ball and biscuit is the coolest thing i've heard this year. well, in top 5 anyway. shame you had to cut 'the union forever' though. well done, good sir.

Yes, a great band. Everything they've done is wonderful but I especially like the 2nd album De Stijl.

I usually hate when people say, "What? No [insert] song title here?!" but I have such an attachment to "Hello Operator" that I gotta. :) First Stripes song I ever heard, and I was hooked for life. In spite of missing it and "I'm Bound to Pack It Up", this is a great mix. And I'll chime in with Emery and say De Stijl is my favorite, though Elephant has given it a run for its money -- "Ball and Biscuit" is one of my favorite songs this year.

Damn. I put my brackets in the wrong place...see what happens when you complain about a mix missing a song?! It's karma! ;)

Having heard your original version of this mix, I can only assume you've improved it further (hard to believe, since the original was damn good!)

Yeah...A great band, esp their 2 first albums...I can't say I've been listening to their latest cd that much but it have some great tracks. This mix IS great.....And if you ever do a b-side collection include it on our 2008-trade!

Okay, I'll weigh in on the "best White Stripes albums" discussion. My favorite (by a hair) is the first album, followed veerrry closely by White Blood Cells. De Stijl is also great (and features my favorite song, "You're Pretty Good Looking"), but, IMHO, slightly less great than those two. Elephant, to me, is pretty weak... I absolutely love those five tracks that I've included and like a few others, but it's the first record of theirs that hasn't knocked me out (although I think it *sounds* great). That said, it's still #12 on my albums of the year list.

like almost everyone else who's commented, i'd have to say that i'm sorely missing "i'm bound to pack it up" and "hello operator," BUT that said, this is a great collection anyway. it's pretty hard to get such a great, mysterious, talented band down to a science, but you seem to have done it.

Nice revision, though we are polar opposites when it comes to favorite albums. "Elephant" and "De Stijl" are at the top of my list, trailed a bit by "White Blood Cells." The debut is definitely at the bottom of my pile, by a pretty wide margin.

Another revision! Glad to see "My Doorbell" here. That was the first one that really jumped out at me on the new record. Still not sure where I'd stick "Satan" in my ranking of their albums, but I do like it a lot.

BTW, I know their manager. :-)
