Comment:

nothing but a quick and obvious mix for the workplace of stuff from (probably) my favorite band of all time. maybe. i like them a lot, at the very least. i went light on the early to mid-90's stuff, as i figured i'd be eventually sending a copy of this to the one i love most, and she is already more than familiar with the three albums from that era. still, i couldn't help but throw in "dirty boots" (inescapable nostalgic pull for me) and "on the strip", which i think has one of the most beautiful outros i've ever heard. also, the second part of "washing machine" is jaw-droppingly great.

Great. And you picked my two favorites, "Catholic Block" and "Teenage Riot."

I forgot to say that "Total Trash" and "Schizophrenia" are probably also in my Top 5 SY tracks (can you tell which two albums are my favorites?).

i was just planning to make a 2cd sy mix myself. they have been my favourite band for quite a while now. well, this looks great. i'm glad that you included unwind and starpower which i think alot of people ignore. both songs go in my top 5 for sure.

yeah, "sister" might very well be my fave album as well, although i'm honestly never very good at nailing down favorite anythings. sonic youth just has too much good music spread over so many different releases!

"goo", for example, was my first exposure to sonic youth and remains one of my favorite albums of theirs.

i like the way that "unwind" sets up "karen revisited", which is another song that i love love love. i thought about doing a 2cd mix, but really just wanted something for the headphones at work. a second disc seems unavoidable, but i'm trying my best to avoid it at this point, however incomplete this thing ends up feeling.

neatness and rackets!! I vote for Sister too though the infinite version of Expressway To Yr Skull off of Evol is a pretty cogent arguement for that album too... and on and on. overall verdict Sonic Youth good, though amusingly a good friend of mine refuses to say anything nice about them as she was mates with some other, as yet unrevealed art noiserock band in the early eighties...

Great band. Favorite probably if I had to pick, which I don't so...I love "Snare, Girl" and "Catholic Block" in particular here, but, am able to find something to like in everything this band has done.
