In 1938, when Bill Monroe renamed his band the Blue Grass Boys, he changed the course of music history. Bluegrass was his innovation — a Southern-flavored cocktail of blues, gospel, country, and folk that became one of the pillars of rock 'n' roll. The future can clearly be heard on tracks like "New Mule Skinner Blues."
