Comment:

The high Classical period (1750-1820) saw composers build upon the innovations of the Baroque era to create formal structures for purely instrumental music. Mozart and Haydn led the way, developing symphonies, concertos, sonatas, and operas into the formats we recognize today. Beethoven's fifth shook the world with four little notes, and Boccherini secured his place in history with a charming little minuet.
