Comment:

This started this summer when my uncle, Father Jude, wondered aloud, "Whatever happened to yodeling in popular music?"
A fascinating question.
A lot of it went to West Texas and turned into something beautiful. A lot more went to Nashville and turned into something hideous. Some of it just kept echoing around the canyons. (And as Radio Sally reminds us, that other Elvis is having a birthday.)
It's all interesting. Not all of it can be said to be good. But this mix hangs -- and hangs like flax on a distaff.
Boy, I've missed this site.

Yodeling is really underrated and in danger of becoming a lost art form. I was reminded of how great yodeling can be when I heard a friends band, The Grandsons (from DC), do a wonderful yodeling song some time back. There's another great yodeling moment on the Stray Cats' take on Mystery Train. That said, you've got some super fine tunes here, and several I haven't heard. Nice job.

One of my favs is an over-the-top number called "Goddamn Blue Yodel #7" by Slim Cessna's Auto Club. And the great Don Walser is carrying on the tradition started by Jimmie Rodgers. This looks to be a fun survey. Nice job!
