Comment:
A collection of various branches of the power-pop tree, from 1976 to 2000. Although I tend to favor '70s-style power-pop (are there any more perfect confections than "Starry Eyes" by The Records and Bram Tchaikovsky's "Girl of My Dreams"?), that era is slight edged out by songs of the '90s, nine to seven. There's something to be said for somewhat punked-up guitars under the sparkling harmonies (plus a few personal connections: two of the '90s artists played at a birthday party for me, and I crashed my car into the lead singer for a third). Interspersed throughout are vintage radio jingles and a couple of movie clips. All songs segue together, as if on radio. QUERY: Does *anybody* have any info about Gary Charlson? I only have this one nifty track, and the net is unhelpful except suggesting a possible 1979 single release.Feedback:
Ohhhhh yeah! Agreeing with you, Starry Eyes by the Records was amazing. This is real cool, and you can't go wrong with a clip from Fast Times @ Ridgemont High...which clip by the way? It's one of my favorite movies.
The Fast Times clip was the scene where two junior high kids come up to Mike Damone to buy scalped tickets to see Van Halen: "Scalper? You call me a scalper? I perform a service, my friends. The service costs money. Now do you want the tickets or not?" Heh, heh--the kids were ticked off because Damone was selling the $12.50 tickets (in the first 10 rows!!) for the outrageous amount of $20. Ah, those 1982 concert prices!
looks really great, all of the stuff I've heard before are all ace and that makes wanna hear all the other stuff too
