Comment:
I made this for extra credit in history, to be like a narrative to The Jungle. If you haven't read it or don't remember this is the basic plot i used for this. A family full of hope comes to America and the two youngins, Jurgis and Ona, get married. They both get jobs in Chicago/Packingtown, and are still very poor as the captialist stay rich. They also learn the gross facts about the food and water and the graft system of paying people off. Jurgis's life just sucks and he gets a drinking problem. After his wife and baby dies, he starts to work for the corrupt mayor doing "dirty deeds", but then loses this job. He becomes a begger, and around the Ugly Casanova song discovers Socialism and his saved and given a new hope. Songs I didn't add but maybe should have: Welcome to the Jungle/Guns and Roses, Our House/Madness, Master of the House/LesMiz and several more Les Miserables songs. Recommend more, maybe I can make a part two.Feedback:
Man, I wish I had your instructor for History-- what a great idea to write a soundtrack for a novel. Some ideas-- perhaps "Don't Give Up"--Kate Bush/Peter Gabriel...oh...and smarmy but inspiring "America" by Neil Diamond.......hmmm...either "Chicago (my kinda town)-- Frank Sinatra or "The Night Chicago Died"--Paper Lace...maybe Aerosmith--Eat the Rich...As for the drinking problem, geez, there's a million-- any Pogues tune, nearly any live Replacements tune, "Drinkin' for Eleven"--Mad Caddies...as for the graft bit I suppose "Don't Pay the Ferryman" is a stretch...but how about Pink Floyd "Money" or even Cindy Lauper's "Money Changes Everything"....just a thought or two, but geez, whatta cool idea, makes me want to read the novel again-- very well done, hope you get an "A".
