[each january, a friend of mine compiles his best-of for the previous year -- songs that he discovered in that year, not necessarily that were RELEASED in that year. i've been doing the same for a while now. these aren't necessarily my favorite songs from the year, however, as i tend to try to choose songs that my friend will like as well, so everything ends up getting filtered through that somewhat limiting prism. i know that i would have had eminem's "without me," on here otherwise, as i found that song almost absurdly catchy, amusing, and memorable in '02.]
