Comment:
In late december I made a 1977 mix 'cos I didn't think it was a good year at last year, but my brother came asking after my annual year mixes and I thought I started with a Swedish one, that also goes to Valis, so he can update on the Swedish scene, I'va a mission to fullfil to give you all the best in contemporary Swedish stuff, here's the best from last year, Legends are my fav group at the moment , marvelous record in my ears, Concretes are beautiful and very hip at the Rough trade record stores right now, check them all out. BTW does anyone out there know where Rocky Dennis got his name from ?Feedback:
those broder daniel, radio dept. and concretes albums are excellent.
I totally need a copy of this!
Wasn't Rocky Dennis that kid in "Mask?"
Wasn't Rocky Dennis that kid in "Mask?"
Erik you're absolutely right
brill!! love almost everything on here!
Wish I knew any artist on this, P, but I don't. I'm sure it's mighty fine though.
Only thing familiar here's Komeda. As to the rest . . . I ditto Gerry.
hey i know broder daniel! (thanx to you!) but i'm sure the rest of this is the best.
I think it was a good year after all! Concretes f÷rgyller min vardag med......har en lite h÷g cd's st dej ps jobbet imorron!
Bear Quartet! Cool. I have heard many good things about Concretes- I think their record's due here soon. Must remember to check it out.
The only band I'm familiar with on this one is Fireside! But I trust your taste, I'm sure the rest is excellent too!
I'm lost completely here Peter but if it's as good as I've come to expect from you, I'm sure this is great;
Don't know much on here either (just Radio Dept. and Komeda), but I know there's something in the water over there that produces great pop music. Please start my new pile with this one, mate! Thanks.
I think I am just as curious as everyone else. You know it's going to be good, considering the source.
Fuck - this looks amazing. I've read about a few of these bands but have heard almost nothing here. I have a Sweedish pop mix from a friend from a few years ago and most of it was pretty damn cool. What the hell is going on in Sweden that all this cool music is happening there?!?
Other great Swedish band, the Moonbabies. Parasol.com is actually selling a lot of great Swedish stuff right now.
Holy motha'-friggin'-'ell!!!
1. Starts this tour of the Swedish scene with a track as powerful as the title suggests: BOM BOM
2. Haven't a clue what they're saying but it kicks some buttocks...
3. What a fantastic, anthemic rocker!
4. Outstanding percussion textures, staccato guitars...Big Country-meets-Stiff Little Fingers (circa Go For It)...rippin'!
5. Great voice and a great band behind it..
6. First track 3 was my favorite, then track 4...and I've heard the whole thing now and this one was my "new favorite" after I first heard it, supplanting the prior tracks...has everything I LOVE about great power pop---insistent pace that just keeps drivin'..! BIG UPS! Go Legend!!!
7. Fuzz-n'-stomp!
8. ---see above---
9. Outstanding opening sequence, like a harder-edged Book of Love...
11. I couldn't get over this one either..,I kept thinking: "Hmm, she sounds familiar..." Then it hit me: this is Kate Bush's voice inside Siouxsie's body!
17. Hey, is that a sitar in the background..?!!!
19. "the Swedish Dandy Warhols"? Reminds me of "Bohemian Like You", and that ain't a bad thing...
20. I love (!) any Bear Quartet. Anytime/anywhere.
22. Same with Isolation Years.
23. Oh p...my hair stood on end. This guy sounds just like Joe (The Joe...) I almost cried...perfect closer to a flawless "state-of-the-state" of the Swedish music scene. Confirms what I already knew:
Sweden ROCKS!!!
Thank you p....

well that vas a surprise, feeling flattered, BTW Rocky Dennis is noadays known under his real name, Jens Lekman, you better check him out
I'm sure this is great, but I've never heard a track on it. However, all the good things that come out of Sweden, Henrik Larsson, Johan Mjallby, Magnus Hedman's wife! This must be good. Well Done!
Congrats Peter. This is the sort of mix that can really only receive true recognition after being heard. Nice one.
Congratulations! What can I trade you for this? Sounds like I need to move to Sweden...
Congrats. I didn't comment before because I've only heard Komeda...
This looks really great - I love a lot of your mixes so respect is definitely due!
CONGRATS P... looks really great!
Well done Peter, if you're up for dispensing a copy to the uninitiated I'd love to trade for this.
Peter - so sorry for not getting in touch. I promise I will email you soon. I would love to trade for this. I'm very curious.
