Comment:
This is not really a theme mix but it came together after watching the Mike Nichols film "What Planet Are You From?" If there is a typical Nichols movie, then this one is the most atypical. There are songs here that relate to bits from some of Nichols' other films, which I watched again recently as sort of a Nichols film festival. For example the scene in "The Graduate" where Dustin Hoffman tells the hotel desk clerk he's got his luggage with him as he pats the pocket holding his toothbrush. Or the "Ballbusters On Parade" home video of Jack Nicholson in "Carnal Knowledge." Or mama Shirley MacLaine trying to outdo daughter Meryl Streep with a song in "Postacards From The Edge." There are songs for others as well: "Heartburn," "Catch-22," "Primary Colors," "Silkwood," "Working Girl," "Wolf," "Biloxi Blues," "Day of the Dolphin," and "Birdcage." Anyway, it was a lot of fun watching the films and putting together this mix. Anyone interested in trading should know there is no background hum on the disc similar to the one coming from Gary Shandling's apparatus.
Feedback:
Excellent Dean. Love the Alejandro Escovedo -> Del McCoury especially.
