Title taken from a Dead Boys album. An exploration of punk sounds of yesterday.Feedback:
AWESOME! A crash course in pre-prefab Punk (both sides of the Atlantic too!)I bow to your record collection (& good taste)
Q: Did Hardcore kill the original Punk sound?
Q: Did Hardcore kill the original Punk sound?
I don't think hardcore killed the original Punk sound, perhaps like all other sounds in rock and roll, when the suburban "jock" crowd (those with no understanding of its roots) starts liking it it seems to loose a bit of its identity. Afterall, I feel Robert Johnson is a part of the original punk sound.
Casetta,
Robert Johnson and Punk Rock? I would be interested to hear this connection.

Hey Joey, I don't want to get into a long disortation. I guess what I was getting to was where did punk begin? In my humble opinion, many a punk existed before punk rock and that was what I was getting too.
The Bo Diddley beat was created in 1,ooo,ooo BC. Fifteen minutes later "Louie Louie" was written. The rest is history.
Thanks for the comment Falstaff, I urge those who need some insight to read the highly entertaining writing by Lester Bangs concerning the history of power pop and punk in Psycotic Reactions and Carburator Dung. Then again I choose to only have two labels of music-good and bad and that is highly subjective.
There's only two types of music - good & bad"
Duke Ellington
Duke Ellington
I knew I liked Duke for a good reason.
It is great to find a mix with bands I know and bands I don't have a clue about.Having worked in a small record store for 3 years you can take that as a compliment! Great taste!
I don't think that hardcore killed off the original punk sound, either. There was a lot of good hardcore. The thing I miss is the diversity of the punk/hardcore scene. It seems that all too much these days, people are very segregated in their tastes. Where not as much back in the day.
By the way, good mix.
ah, the good old "so what exactly do you mean by punk?" debate.
a nice mix. though of course i can't really agree that the dead boys, germs, gbh, blitz or bad brains were ever truly punk. but then, what do i mean by punk?
who the hell were the weirdos? and is that a cover of the members' song?
