Comment:
The youngsters asked me the other day: "Daddy, what is a riff?"This is the first volume of my explanation.
In reverse chronological order, more or less.

Spiffin' riffin'
Nice ! hmmmm...sounds like this will bridge the gap (some would say riff t) between the generations...
t'would seems so simple, just develop a catchy 4-7 chord sound...then repeat (takes me back to a Bowie interview where he explained the story behind he & Lennon developing the Fame riff).

Nothing like object lessons for the young and the young-at-heart. Big riffin' here...and plenty more where they came from!
terRIFFic! As the last 2 tracks so aptly point out, I can't explain, but you really got me!
Teriffic! Could be the first in a series of "Daddy, what is a ______?"
riif-a-riffic!
Excellent.
This is beautiful. Picture dozens of AOTM'ers air-guitarin'....isn't the air-guitar the riff's ultimate achievement? Geez, this is perfect!
rifftastic!
Nice. Good examples all around, although I must admit to having a Deep loathing for "Smoke on the Water."
I love the idea (especially arranging it in reverse chronological order) and you've done a good job of compiling the essentials. I'd almost like to see a companion mix of all contemporary riff-driven songs. (And I just say that just out of personal preference. I've never been able to get into Hendrix or Zep or BTO.) :p
