Comment:
2nd of a 2 volume set. This is a collection of my more favorite songs from the later years of Yo La Tengo (from I Can Hear the Heart...(1997) to Summer Sun(2003) or at least one song from it). I mostly kept the more "song" songs as I think the noiser songs don't work well out of context. As I mostly only have the albums -- I am sure I am missing some incredible singles. Comments/suggestions welcome.
Feedback:
I like these selections. I wonder if YLT is one of those bands where it doesn't really matter if you own everything they put out - I mean, it's all pretty great, but I can't think of any record that stands out against others. Well, I'm pretty partial to Fakebook, but that's because of how much I loved it when it came out. And there is a single track, a twisted version of the Looney Tunes theme, that I love. Anwwho, you done good!
Au contraire, Sean... one must own EVERYTHING they've ever recorded to feel really complete. Well, okay, their debut (Ride the Tiger) is pretty lame, and the follow-up was pretty weak (but the cd adds the must-own President EP), and I still don't like Summer Sun (and thus, like johnnyboy, would've been hard pressed to include too many selections from it). To answer johnnyboy's question, there probably aren't a ton of non-lp tracks you really need, though "Shaker" is pretty nifty, their cover of Blondie's "Dreaming" is killer, the acoustic "Tom Courtenay" is great, and I prefer the treble-heavy "Motel 6" remix to the original.
I seem to have missed quite a bit of YLT along the way.
If you could find a couple of mine you'd like to trade for, I'd like to hear both of these . . .
