Comment:
Well, I forgot about two mixes last time. Apparently, I'm supposed to make a mix called "Ma, I Failed Math." Then there's this one, a jazz mix for my friend Arthur (abbreviated "Arsh" when I'm trying to get his attention online and tired of typing all six letters of his name). The basic story is that, as he is a fan of Mingus and does not have "Oh Yeah," quite possibly my favorite Mingus album, I have been on his case quite frequently. I also frequently recommended that he listen to Rahsaan Roland Kirk. One day he said: "Why don't you just make me a jazz mix?"So I did, after forgetting about it for a few months.Obviously, there's a lot of Mingus on here. There's also a lot of fusion. The use of Zappa and Tom Waits will definitely be questioned by some, as will the exclusion of Miles and Coltrane (couldn't really think of any of theirs to put on that would've fit... if only "Shhh/Peaceful" was a little shorter...). However, I believe it serves its purpose. And after all, I had to include Zappa, didn't I? The title comes from one of his best-known quotes: "Jazz isn't dead. It just smells funny."One down, five to go...Feedback:
Personally, I think Tom Waits in a jazz mix is great. He's bluesy, little jazzy and a little downtrodden. As for the Bird and Miles, they have their place in jazz history, they need to move over and let some others into the cannon. Great Mix!
I like this...should have had more comments!
