Comment:
What if John dumped Yoko? What if Paul hadn't insisted that the boys hire his wife's uncle? What if the Beatles didn't fall apart? What would their 1970-1971 release look like? I'd like to think maybe a little bit like this mix. I could picture a world where they stayed together, but released solo albums. If they did that, then this little experiment becomes more difficult, b/c they'd probably keep their best stuff for themselves. Therefore, I'm assuming a few things here: A. They stayed a complete unit, doing only experimental projects (e.g. Life w/Lions; The Family Way) as solo artists; B. If they had wanted material to come out, they would have released it - I'm looking at only material officially released in 1970. John & Paul came out w/two of their strongest-ever solo albums in 1970 (Plastic Ono Band & McCartney) & George released his classic All Things Must Pass. Ringo released two albums of covers (Sentimental Journey & Beaucoups of Blues). So if ya'll will allow me to step into George Martin's shoes, I proudly present my first in a series of What Ifs...Notes on the selections: I pretty much went w/favorite songs from the respective solo albums, many of them hits. I tried to chose only the strongest material. I could picture Lennon insisting that they open & close w/his Power/Peace tracks - that's where his head was at the time. Macca had wanted to do Teddy Boy since the Cavern days almost, so that would be John's concession to Paul. First single - Power to the People b/w Give Peace a Chance; Second single - Maybe I'm Amazed b/w That Would be Something; Third single - My Sweet Lord b/w Love; Fourth single - Every Night b/w Singalong Junk.

Feedback:
I know this is the first in the series, but I read this one last. Very well done; it's the one that, to me, reads the most like an actual Beatles album. Great picks, and I agree with the "Power/Peace" positiong (or perhaps he'd have made a medly of it with a reprise as the closer).
Iffy cover art, tho. :)

this is such a great idea for a series of mixes. wow.
Yeah, I know the cover is full of suckitude, but this was my first shot at Paint - I'm an old dude, new to these new-fangled contraptions, dag-nabbit. Anyway, the Cotten Sods cover sucks too - maybe I'll fix these babies up and re-submit...
Thanks for the kind words - a medley/reprise sort of deal would have been cool.

this is amazing. i don't suppose i could convince you to send me all of them?
Thanks, Rosy - I've got to make these babies for myself first! - but then - we'll see....
nicely done
I'm throw my hat into the pro-cover art camp. I think it has a sort of dada quality to it that is so damn cheap it actually works. I'm a big fan of "what if" speculating with music and this one works for me.
just so long as you don't forget about me.
no way, that cover art is awesome
Well, I'll be damned. Don't know how I missed this series the first time around, but, well, I found it now. Most excellent.
This looks great... did you know that I posted something like this eight days prior to you posting this mix? ;-) Not calling you out... just saying that great minds were thinking alike. heh
