So i was going to make another Beatles tape for the kids to take on vacation, continuing our history lessons from 'the white album,' and 'sgt. pepper.' figured it was time to do the early stuff (without overlapping 'rubber soul'/'revolver' in their u.s. configurations, our favorite tape). i went to lay down the "red album" and was shocked to see how short it was. so consider this the "red album plus." songs are pretty much in chronological order of recording, except where hunks of the "red album" could be transferred. 39 tracks in 90 minutes and i still had to omit such early faves as 'this boy,' 'don't bother me' and 'the night before.' thanx to ian macdonald's invaluable song-by-song critique, 'revolution in the head.'
