Comment:
Band Members: Nick Cave, Mick Harvey, Tracey Pew, Phil Calvert, and Rowland S. HowardThe best band I ever saw!
I'm always amazed when I click on Goth Mixes or see Goth Comps to see The Birthday Party included. Aside from Cave & Howard's mutual lusting for Carolyn Jones as Morticia in The Adam's Family; Howard's eye-liner, palid skin and blue black spike; Cave's cartoon haystack and a 7" titled Release The Bats there is nothing in The BP's canon to suggest Gothic. Southern Gothic, yes, but not The Gothic we use to describe Bauhaus, or Sisters of Mercy. Anyway, Goths were far too precious to attend Birthday Party Gigs in case their hair got tangled in Cave's flying boot.
A Few Notes
Lionel Long was an Australian Folk Singer, Ring-A-Ling Hi, co-penned by my father, was a song about Australian Outlaw Ned Kelly whom Cave became interested in.
Rowland S. Howard fronted the Immortal Souls.
Gallon drunk are a London based band, with obvious Bparty inflences. Lead Singer James Johnston replaced Blixa Bargeld in The Bad Seeds.
Beasts of Bourbon are an Australian Band, lead singer Tex Perkins has written with Cave and appeared on Bad Seeds Albums as well as fronting The Cruel Sea.
Crime & The City Solution was another Australian Band that both Mick Harvey & Rowland S. Howard played in.
The Pop Group was a Bristol Band and whose influence can clearly be heard in Bparty and were acknowledged by Cave to be a turning point in The Party's sound.
The Boys Next Door are of course The Birthday Party.

Feedback:
Perfect. Thanks.
Dude, the only BP song I know is Release the Bats, so I can't say if as a tribute this works but as a mix it's excellent.
Very cool. Mingus to Tome Jones is interesting, and the Howlin' Wolf is always welcome. That magical new "1" in your name is peculiar, though somewhat compelling.
That combination of the Pop Group and The Fall is a killer combination.
Actually, this entire mix looks great.
Actually, this entire mix looks great.
really cool stuff, side B are awesome
neat stuff. Wish you had a cd burner so we could do some heavy trading!
Yeah, kickass. Check that cowboy hat out! Awesome.
All great stuff, with great personalized notes Dom (1)....like p I think Side B is awesome....more Crime & the City Solution! (greaseball needs to see this.)
very cool again, dom.
This looks great.
and I got to add what Gerry said about the CD burner
Awesome.
Hands up - who wants to die?!? I think that this is my fave "This One's For..." discs, maybe becasue it's the one I can relate the most to. Great way to kick off a BP tribute (actually the first three songs are perfect evolutionary links in style and spirit to BP). One of my fave Beefheart songs and a great Beasts of Borubon pick.
Okay, this is absolutely top-notch. Excellent tribute to one of the greatest bands ever. "Surprising Where You Find God."
