Comment:

I was a HUGE Pumpkins fan back in the mid to late 90s... so recently I pulled out Mellon Collie. In my opinion, it works well as a grand statement because the lyrics are a little over the top anyway. But what if I wanted to cut it down to the essentials? This is my effort to cut a good double album in half and come out with something decent. Let me know if you disagree with anything.

i've wanted to cut the white album down to one disc for a while...you sort of read my mind!

You cut through a lot of the filler. Muzzle is a great tune, plus the Mellon Collie instrumental opener is great.

I agree about cutting through the filler - Though I'm not sure I like the exclusion of such important Mellon Collie tracks as "Porcelina Of The Vast Oceans," "Jellybelly" and "Here Is No Why." Oh well . . . A good mix, otherwise.

The idea of 14 songs came from a conversation I had with some friends over the ideal length of a recording. I've always thought Porcelina was way too long, with the long washy intro... but it is a solid tune after that. I really like the effect of going from the opener to the feedback of "Tales". "Love" probably shouldn't be on there, but it's a personal favorite. A lot of the filler was quiet stuff, and I felt like some of the heavier songs had to go too to keep it a little balanced... otherwise, thirty-three would sound too out of place... I'd love to see other people's thoughts, because I'm not a typical Pumpkins fan... e-mail me your corrections, heh.
