Comment:

A mix for Gerry and his countrymen, nearly called it,'Dh' Aindheoin Co Theireadh E' - Battle cry of the clan Macdonald but Gerry's a McDonald and therefore thought it might offend. Anyway this is by no means a definitive catologue of the best of Scottish songsters; just a collection of tunes enjoyed by a mere Sassenach (though one proud of his clan Bruce heritage) Enjoy.

Title translates to 'Scotland Land Of The Brave' by the way.

There's no denying it, a lot of great music has broken thru Hadrian's Wall..Bono was always a poor man's Mike SCOTT...I see u opted to leave out Orange juice, LLoyd Cole & The Magnificent Alex Harvey...Altered Images and The Bay City Rollers (reckon Gerry'll be mortified at losing a band so endowed with the psych spirit)..nice to see those young upstarts Franz Ferdinand...good stuff as always Cliff!!!!!!

Looks great!
I have often thought of doing something similar... including such artists as Aztec Camera, The Bluebells and Simple Minds.

great mix, Frenchie, and thanks for the mention! I love the john Martyn track to death and the rest ain't too shabby either. If there is to be a volume two, Donovan and the Vaselines would fit nicely.

Just a quick response to Dom & Erik. Couldn't agree more with your comment about Bono, Mike Scott is one of my all-time heroes, not only are his songs superb but lyrically he's a genius too. Oh by the way, would have included Lloyd Cole but when I checked he's English, though admittedly the Commotions were formed in Scotland; & yeh Erik all 3 of your suggestions nearly made it.

A load of the pure Scottish stuff..., Franz Ferdinand rips. I'd be inclined to go with Alex' Harvey and some Poets, too..., v2?

Also, from where I sit, as Guest Editor, this has been in my "Top Ten Mixes of the Week" since you posted. Great job!

Good. But I'll echo the call for Altered Images and the Vaselines, and add the much maligned Bis.

Can't believe I didn't see this before! You have great artists on here - from a great place, though I may be biased :) - and I really like the inclusion of the Karen Matheson. Amen to the Franz Ferdinand sentiments (and the Mike Scott comments!)
