Comment:
OSMOSIS:1a) Diffusion of fluid through a semi-permeable membrane from a solution with a low solute concentration to a solution with a higher solute concentration until there is an equal concentration of fluid on both sides of the membrane. 1b) The tendency of fluids to diffuse in such a manner.
2) A gradual, often unconscious process of assimilation or absorption: learned French by osmosis while residing in Paris for 15 years.
I wanted to do a mix that required no work, and I thought that I must have plenty of mixes buried deep down in my subconscious. Several months ago it occurred me that I wanted to do a mix that started with the Mathews' Southern Comfort followed by the Mountain track, and ending with the Joni Mitchell track. I decided to see how the mix would fall into place as songs came to me while driving, showering, or just bopping around the house. My main goal was that I put no work into the mix process other than grabbing the cd and ripping the track. Whenever I started humming, the song I could not get out of my head, that song was screaming out "Put me into your mix!". I called the mix Osmosis since the occurrence of songs bubbling up from my subconscious to my play list was similar to an osmotic process (in this layman's view).
I admit that this was not 100% successful. I don't know how The Who's Underture made it onto the mix - I did not start playing air guitar to it in the shower, and humming that one is out of the question. I figured that the resulting set of songs would say a lot about me, and my tastes. Maybe it does - all the tracks are near and dear.
To continue, I sent out the mix (sans play list) to a couple of AOTMers, and asked that, upon first listen, they note any tracks to be deleted. Those choices would later be replaced with other music of my choice. That would, in a way, put the listener's stamp on the mix. My buddy Dirk responded by asking me to get rid of tracks 1, 2, 9, 11, 12, and I proceeded to:
Delete Woodstock and substitute Graham Parker's Passion Is No Ordinary Word.
Delete Nantucket Sleighride and substitute Mary Black's Prayer For Love
Delete Nino Rota's La Dolce Vita soundtrack and substitute Spandau Ballet's I'll Fly For You.
Delete Baby, Baby Don't Cry and substitute Mark Almond's One Way Sunday.
Delete Poor Little Fool with room for no more cuts
It's a few months later now, and Dirk must think his mix is never coming. Either version is available. Enjoy the mix!

Feedback:
That sounds like quite a lot of work for a mix that requires no work!
It looks like a good one, though.
Nice to see another Mossholder mix!

Nice to see another Mossholder mix!
Interesting project Steve. I absolutely love that Beach Boys tune & just turned a T Bone Burnett fan onto that Sam Phillips LP.
...I just wanted to say that's a great pic Steve...it's nice to see Nina Wrote Er, she thought she'd been forgotten...but then I hear that Nina's been wiped off...and I agree with erik1966lutig: it seems a lot of work for a mix that requires none. Anyhow, I hope Dirk enjoys it!
Very cool Steve.
Great mix Steve..! (Great notes as well.) Hope Dirk likes it too; the work you've put in to this shows your dedication....
nice, esp diggin' your smokey pick
Good mix Steve, interesting project too.
