Comment:
For years, the band that would become the Gipsy Kings earned their living much as their ancestors had before them — as traveling troubadours, they played where they could, and worked the fields when paying gigs were scarce. They brought the music of their flamenco forebears with them, but picked up other sounds as they went, and by the time the Brothers Reyes and Baliardo came to the attention of the world, they had perfected a people-pleasing genius for incorporating modern strains from around the world into their own distinctive heritage. Our Gipsy Kings Essentials brings you the best of the band’s multifaceted music, from the pan-Euro approach of “Volare” to the party-time pleasures of “Baila Me,” to the stripped down power of flamenco powerhouse “Aven, Aven.”
