Ah, hair metal, the totally ’80s phenomenon that got many of us — the Essentials staff included — to believe in the power of [i]big[/i] hair and [i]big[/i] riffs, from the strip club shout-outs of “Girls, Girls, Girls” to the wall-rattling fighting words of “We’re Not Gonna Take It.” Both of which slip in and out of our daily shower routine, right alongside such fist-pumping karaoke classics as “Rock You Like a Hurricane,” “Cherry Pie,” and “Paradise City.” And that’s not even counting the lighter-lifting power ballads that showed us the sensitive side of rock’s reigning bad boys, including “The Ballad of Jayne,” “Sister Christian,” “Heaven,” and the keyboard-chased “Headed for a Heartbreak.” Does rock get any more entertaining, any more, well, [i]fun[/i], than this? We [i]highly[/i] doubt it.
