Comment:

Just under 80 minutes of proto-synth pop, courtesy (for the most part) of Vinz Clortho (I own Autobahn and The Man-Machine, but nothing else). Do I think these guys are overrated? Yes, heartily. However, Trans-Europe Express and Radio-Activity are pretty great albums through and through, and Autobahn is pretty fine as an album, as well...

no they're not overrated, not their classic stuff anyway, 73 -82 is pure classic in my ears

The Man Machine is a classic, too. You can't say Kraftwerk are overrated. That's like saying the Beatles are overrated! And we know how Rob feels about them!

A Great collection here. It's hard to say a band is overrated when their influences are so wide and deep. I was a little dissapointed in their recent re-recording of Tour de France.

Maybe "overrated" was the wrong term, or perhaps I just shouldn't say that. I think these songs are all great... however, I'm not very synth-centered, and therefore prefer bands like Can, Neu! and Faust in the Krautrock canon. And btw, there is no way that the Beatles are overrated. ;-)

I can't imagine a Kraftwerk mix without Numbers, one of the funkiest song ever done by Germans. Actually the whole "Computer World" album just kicks my butt.

Radio-activity, in my book, is their best by far...just floating staticy tastiness...although, their first two albums are clobbering mastodons...agree w/ George E. here, the influences are vast...ask Senor Coconut!

Pocket calculator is very cool;) and The model is one of my all-time favs, I remember the first I heard it when I was 7 or 8 years old, it scared me a lot........I prefer their Man machine and Computer world albums but all over their albums between 1975-82 is great! Nice mix!!

i don't think they are overrated, but they were hardly the beginning of electronic music(as so often seems to get stated). i've been hearing wonderful things about the shows they are currently doing in the uk. wish i could be at one. :(

Good mix, Rob. Kraftwerk played Glasgow last night, and I took some people there in my cab, and they seemed hesitant to admit they were going to see Kraftwerk. I wonder why as they are okay in my book.

Wow, this mix has more comments in two days than my Kraftwerk primer had in two years' time. Anyhow, interesting choices here, Rob. You've got many of my utmost faves covered ("Aiwaves," "Showroom Dummies," "The Model," "Pocket Calculator," "Computer Love") and some stuff that wouldn't even come close ("Morgenspaziergang," "Franz Schubert"). "Autobahn," in its 22 minute form, wouldn't be anywhere close to one of my faves, as innovative as it was. "Neon Lights" and "Numbers" would definitely make my list, though.

BTW, "Pocket Calculator" is my all-time favorite Kraftwerk song (and the first I ever heard by the band) and "Computer World" is my fave album.

My favorite song, by far, is "The Model." "Autobahn" (in its 22-minute form) isn't far behind, really, although my second fave is probably "Europe Endless." I'm not very fond of either Computer World or The Man-Machine as albums, though.

"The Man-Machine" runs a very close second place to "Computer World," for me. It was actually my fave for a while. "Radioactivity" would be third, followed by "Trans Europe Express" and "Electric Cafe" (which I like about equally, truth be told) and then "Autobahn." I don't really count the first three experimental albums, nor do I count "The Mix" (which I actually like). And I still have to absorb "Tour De France Soundtracks."
