Comment:
An ode to the OA. It looks like the on-again off-again Oxford American magazine is off again. It was fun while it lasted, especially the annual music issue with the free sampler CD. Every year (when it was publishing), the Music Issue presented dozens of articles about Southern music in all its forms and eras and genres. And the free CD was always a real gem, chockablock full of well known and obscure artists. It was a great way to renew old acquaintances, meet new artists, and enjoy great writing about one of my favorite subjects. I spent many a happy hour with the CD in the player and my nose in the magazine. The magazine and the CDs have been a source of inspiration (and tracks) for my own "Mysterious South" series. As I was lamenting the real possibility of a year without a Music Issue, I pulled out my Samplers for consolation and put some of my favorite cuts on a disc -- at least some that I haven't already included in mixes. And here they are. Even the leftovers are treasures.
Feedback:
Very cool.
the magazine business is tough as is any media now a days. it was truly an inspiration and well written. I'm with you, the CDs were anticipated every year. nice mix of them BTW!
Sorry to hear another great music magazine is gone. Nice mix to keep the spirit going.

Ditto Curtis!
This looks brilliant! I have to have a copy, Steve. Hope all is well with you. Drop me a line when you have a chance and we can set up another round of trades, or even just to say hello!
