Comment:
So this is a re-mastered, re-sequenced and re-tracked version of an old mix of mine. On this one, I opted to abandon my "chronlogical order" standard in order to more evenly distribute Lindsey Buckingham's genius tunes from Tusk (all of which are included here). I know that just about everything after Tusk sucks (although Tango in the Night has a moment or two), but their three California-era 70's albums are (to me) undeniably great... despite the fact that your parents and everyone else you know whose taste sucks like them. It's pretty obvious who draws me to this band (Lindsey Buckingham, pop mini-genius, and Stevie Nicks, who somehow wrote some great songs for a few years). I actually had to cut a track that I love ("Crystal") and several others that were considered ("Think About Me", "Don't Stop", "I'm So Afraid", "Over My Head" and "Over and Over"). And yes, I love the Peter Green era, too, but that stuff clearly doesn't fit here and CASETTA has done a pretty definitive Green-era collection that I'd be hard-pressed to top.Feedback:
complete bastard...the Mac was on my mind...or are you simply reading it (my mind that is)...maybe just this lingering sickness that I have manifested as of late...love the BIG MAC (considering even going to see the crusty bastards this summer)...we do need to do the "get together!"
nice is the most appropriate word I can use to describe this mix. Can't fault the track listing apart from "I don't wanna know" which I love. Always enjoyed their pleasant sound, and yes, like everyone else in the world, I owned Rumours!
great,I think I dig Tango in the night as well but I haven't heard it for a decade so I can be wrong
A nice one Rob! I think Rmours, the 1975 album & Tusk are all great....even their early stuff with Peter Green is nice, esp their first from 1968. Go my own way is an all-time fav for me....
Oooh, by the way I was listening too Tango in the night the other day....My stepfather liked it a lot back in the 80s.....I think I liked it a lot back then too but now? Noooo, I don't like it at all:/
Like a bit of Rumours, me. Great songs.
Nice. Definitely a pop genius band. The Peter Green era was great also and even the Bob Welch era had some good tunes.
Really nice - I've just only recently started to gain an appreciation for Fleetwood Mac, and Stevie Nicks solo, so it's great that something like this should pop up!
Just a nice from me on this one, prefer the Peter Green period Mac myself.
Hmmmmm. I dunno. I find them pretty overrated after the PG period. It's fine pop music, but there's something REALLY annoying about that Stevie Nicks character.
I'm cool with the Mac. Just read an interesting article at Slate about the band. Subtitle: "Why is Fleetwood Mac the least influential great band ever?" Interesting take.
Couldn't have turned the mellow sounds of these cocaine fueled fuckers off fast enough for my tastes back in the day. So how come I'm singing along as I read the selections here? Might have to do some reassessing after reading your praise & especially now that Rhino's put a new coat of lacquer onto their catalog.
I've been thinking about wasting a few bucks on the remasters, since I too find this era to be a guilty pleasure (though my taste is limited to Buckingham's material; still have no trouble avoiding Nicks & McVie). Something I'd really love to see is a mix from the period between the Green & Buckingham-Nicks era. I think there was some fine, mellow music in there to be enjoyed, though I never liked any of the albums enough to invest in the cd's.
Good mix...although I think that "Little Lies" and (especially) "Hold Me" stack up pretty well against the Fleetwood Mac/Rumours/Tusk trilogy.
