Comment:

Capitalizing on the arrival of her fine new album, a thrifty little mix of the finest works by one of my favorite female vocalists. She's not necessarily a great singer (or maybe even a good one), but she's distinctive and consistently enjoyable. Plus, in true folk tradition, she's one of the few artists willing to cover songs by her contemporaries (an art long lost since the Beatles and their peers made rock & roll a songwriter's game). And her taste in covers is impeccable; among others, this mix includes covers of songs by Big Star, Richard Thompson, Magnetic Fields, Nirvana, Elliott Smith, Green Pajamas, Daniel Johnston, Pink Floyd, and, of course, the Archies.

"... goodbye heart Sweet Mary Lou I'm so in love with you..." Nice one Marc. I've always loved her version of Wire's "Outdoor Miner."

And she's also kinda cute, right? Not familiar with her stuff but this all looks interesting. 'Outdoor Miner' is a great song in anyone's language.

I don't know anything about her, Marc, but I'll trade you this mix for one of mine as she's a sweetie.

I agree, very few artists cover songs as well as she does. This looks like a very nice listen.

I've only heard sugar sugar and her cover of Brithday Boy (my favorite cover song by a female, I think). I'd love to trade if you're up for it.

Another female I've no clue about..., but I spot the Green Pajamas cover.

the only tune I've heard her do is "Shake Sugaree"
where she's brilliant, & her choice of material looks really good too -- so, if you'd like to help me out with my musical education, I'd like to put in a bid for a trade on this --
