Comment:

A friend lent me her Evencence CD in hopes that I might understand that particular type of poetic angst (which I find a little green and darivative) In return, I made her this mix to hopefully show that just because the music is angsty, doesn't mean it has to be cliche.

I searched in Tori Amos' backpack -- I found some lip-thickener and a few two-liters of angst. I'm so disappointed in the world....but nice mix, Matt

fabulous!
ew thank you for not putting bright eyes on there. That would be more cliche than evanescence.

I agree, thank you for no Bright Eyes. I like Conor Oberst... but for God's sake. Everyone and their mother listens to him now.

I'm so tired of people bitching because music is cliche. That's not what it's about. Either certain music appeals to you, or it doesn't, and that's as far as it should go. Who the fuck cares how popular the artist is? Whoever lets the artist's popularity affect the way the music sounds to him/her must be pretty shallow.

I'm really not trying to be judgmental Gainey187... I actually like the CD my friend lent me... I just wanted to share some of my angsty stuff with her. And popularity doesn't really have anything to do with it. I've got Radiohead, Ani DiFranco and Tori Amos on this mix... all of which are quite popular. The cliche part I was talking about came from a conversation about lyrics. I just mentioned that Evenencence uses many metaphores that are common in romantic and gothic poetry. Really, didn't mean to imply that it's bad music.

even if evanescence were the most creative band ever, they would still suck. i'll take a mix full of really good pop songs (like this one) over the nu-metal with female vocals of evanescence any day.
